About Me

My name is Elisabeth and this is my blog.

A blog you say? What year is it?

That’s right, I’m old, and I saw this movie when it first came out. When I asked my 19-year-old son to help me come up with a name for my blog he looked at me funny and was like, “do you mean vlog?”

Anyway!

This is my blog. I have always been a writer and a storyteller. And lately, I’ve found myself in a place in my life where I’m not sure what I want, what my future holds, or what I’m supposed to be doing. So I decided to throw out the scripts I’ve been attempting to follow my whole life and just do what I want. Which is road trip and travel, hike up mountains, take my dog on low key walks, and just get outside in the beauty of nature whenever I can.

In this blog, I’ll tell my story of where I’m going, how I’m trying to get there, and the many lessons I’m learning along the way as I attempt to live my dreams.

This is my dog, Beatrix.

As you can see, she’s LITERALLY the cutest dog ever to live. Now that I’m an empty-nester, my life pretty much revolves around her.

Beatrix is a special needs schnauzer. Last year she was diagnosed with diabetes and nearly died. It was a struggle to get her diabetes under control, and to be honest, it remains a struggle sometimes. I spend a lot of time worrying about her, her glucose levels, her food and water intake, and whether she’s just comfortable and happy.

Like me, Beatrix finds a lot of happiness and peace in the outdoors. And I don’t want that to stop just because she has some complex medical needs. So a large part of my blog will be devoted to how I travel with her, camp with her in a way that ensures she’s comfortable, handle medication and glucose monitoring on the road, and deal with related challenges. I’ve learned a ton since she was diagnosed last summer, and I want anyone with a diabetic or other special needs dog to realize that is IS possible for you and your pet to live your best lives even while dealing with these struggles.

I’m here to share the lessons I’ve learned with her and my advice for traveling with a special needs dog.
